Will manage and work as part of a small network engineering team reporting to the Program’s Manager of Systems and Program Manager/PMO and be responsible for defining the system requirements and developing detailed system designs based on Cisco high-availability three-level hierarchical design methodology for part of a new facility and interconnections to the City’s existing center. The Engineer must be familiar with high availability switching and routing network designs and protocols, VLAN-based services for multiple applications, and network security requirements.
The successful candidate must be comfortable preparing briefings, chairing meetings, preparing meeting documentation, preparing status reports, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
Requirements/Skills
Proficiency in the use of MS Project, MS Word, MS Visio, and MS PowerPoint, along with MS Excel.
15 years of experience designing and implementing large scale communications networks
Strong analytical as well as verbal and written communications skills
Practical working knowledge of IP-based network designs and design methods
Practical working knowledge of programmatic skills, including scheduling and cost
Practical working understanding of resource scheduling, and cost management
The following qualifications are desired:
Previous experience in designing high availability networks for public safety organizations.
Practical working knowledge of Public Safety voice/data network design
Solid understanding of public safety (Police/Fire/EMS) concepts of operations
Cisco certification (CCNA, CCDP, CCIE).
Education Requirement:
Bachelors degree in IT/Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines (additional years directly relatable experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.)
